Hey, Bob, I just saw your yesterday's CR post on the AIG bailout thread. Thought I'd pipe up and say I used to be a tech writer, too, and for HP, which outsourced my full-time job to India in 2005. I'm also a boomer and used to live in Santa Cruz. Small world.

Woke up this morning,took the day off work cause I'm just "burnt" trying to keep up with a bigger wkload of 43 students and not more money and an uncertain future w/all the financial crap happening here in our glorious state.

Opened the newspaper to find a note in simple printing like most of my students hispanic parents write saying that as of Nov. 15th our newspaper delivery man is being layed off by the Orange County Register. His comments."for many years this employment has provided economic support for me &my family". Then he goes on to say thank you for your kindness and wishes Happy Holidays. It made me cry to read it.
Here I am burned out on my 100k+ job/career and this guy doesn't have a job for Thanksgiving; and it's not like he's been making a killing from it either.
But the guys at CNBC say the recession is over.....the jerkoffs at Goldman et.al. are getting massive bonuses....and we (the populace) should be happy.
Something's very wrong with all this.
I just read last nite that we (Calif.) are currently the most screwed of all the states, at the moment 7 Billion in the hole (budgetwise).....wtf

I think there is reason for a little doom...and in my case maybe I can try to eek out some gratefulness too.....since I still have a job even if I can barely stand going to it some days.

Hey, how about a post on StabSantaCruz.
They have a funny doomy website. You can follow them on twitter. You can go stab someone and make the news yourself as Scoup used to say all the time. Then you can blog about stabbing, and how funny it was to follow the stabbing on twitter, fb, the sentinel. Make a name for yourself the world of funnydoom.

Shouldn't Nemo have been the first commenter? I lurk at the CR comments (hey rob Dawg's here!) sometimes, but don't have time to post. Great site for links to other blogs like Naked Capitalism and Barry Ritholz' the Big Picture. The financial fraud committed by our government in cahoots with the financial "elite" over the past 18 mos. especially is sickening. Chichikov is a jewel, though.

Thanks for coming by, guys. If you feel ignored when I talk up the commentariat, next time choose a flashy handle like Destroy All Oligarchs or something; I just mentioned the flashy handles, is all.

Rob, it's true, if we don't discuss all the options, we'll never know the dimensions of the ballpark, and won't ever be in it. Just been a little more of it lately, and that started me off on that track.

Tom, I'm short on slack these days, but I'm still hoping for it.

I like CR too. Poetry is always good for the mind especialy in these times; having lost my home I'm just grateful for my health and my son. Still have my job but working harder for less... Sometimes the stripping away of material things is good for the soul.

In all fairness some of the doom is what photographers called bracketing the exposure. When there were uncertain conditions we olde types would shoot for conditions beyond what the instruments predicted. For the record I've taken to calling these economic times the muddlecession.
