Police blotter haiku are tiny slices of zen -- and farce, and tragedy -- draw from the "police blotter" and "crime report" columns of American's small town newspapers. Where the great questions of human existence are raised, inadvertently, in paragraph-long accounts of burglary, conflict, suspicion, and just plain bad behavior.
This week's entries were drawn from
- The Weekly Gem of Diamond River, California, where they're a bit uptight about -- well, everything.
- The Daily Bugle of Bonanzaburg, California, where they're not uptight about anything but like to get rowdy.
- The Tribune/Informer of Lake Harborwoodville, Oregon, where they're rowdy and uptight.
- And the Yahoo of Drainage Valley, California, where some locals may have missed out on basic socialization.
As they'd broken up,
he saw no reason not to
max out her charge cards.
His nude manliness,
Displayed for the girls next door,
Incited no lust.
A prosperous town:
Where even the purse snatchers
escape in Beemers.
"Intruders!" he cried.
"No, we're TPing your house!"
He could live with that.
Her ex doesn't stop
her from answering her door.
Her fear of him, does.
Naked jumping jacks!
In front of the movie house.
He was the REAL show.
He shouldn't have chased
her car but she shouldn't have
flipped him the finger.
"Admiring the lake"
he was, with his nose pressed to
the neighbor's window.
He tried to break in
by squeezing through the cat door.
Only works for cats.
He head-butted a
car outside a bar with scant
damage -- to the car.
In her high-end home,
In the finest neighborhood,
She still died alone.
